Encore une occasion de me dire que j’ai bien fait de rester zen ! Avant le début de cette Rolex, il y avait de quoi imaginer le pire. Si près des Jeux, nous avons bien cru que le bateau n’arriverait jamais, entre des retards de construction et de livraison. Le nouveau bateau n’est arrivé que le vendredi précédant la première manche et a été débâché in extremis.
Cette expérience est complètement hors de nos plans de conduite habituels mais elle a eu le mérite de mettre toute l’équipe sous pression – kiné Guillot compris – en ce début d’année. Il fallait tout de même éviter le ridicule ici, dans le fief des Stars, et si possible, tenir le rang devant le gratin de la classe. Xavier et Pascal ont fait beaucoup mieux, ils ont gagné ! Pour moi ça relève de l’exploit et je n’utilise pas ce mot à la légère.
Ils avaient déjà fait un coup énorme ici il y a deux ans en survolant cette même Rolex mais cette nouvelle victoire est plus exotique. Je m'aperçois que je deviens plus "supporter" qu'entraineur de cet équipage et ça ne me dérange pas car je n'en retire que du plaisir et pas de gloire.Ce sport n'est pas médiatique et c'est dommage parce qu'au fils de leurs résultats, à ce niveau de régularité au sommet, cet équipage grave une grande page de l’histoire de la voile olympique .... en toute discrétion.

Hello from Miami

Today was the final day of fleet racing at US Sailing's Rolex Miami OCR. There were two races in the silver fleet for the Star Class and only one in the gold fleet. The gold fleet race was started in the mid-afternoon in a fluky and dying breeze that wasn't consistent enough to start a second race. Eivind Melleby and Petter Morland Pedersen finished the fleet racing with 24 points and are five points ahead of second place, Xavier Rohart and Pascal Rambeau (FRA) going into tomorrow's medal round.

Xavier Rohart and Philippe Rambeau (FRA) had the most convincing victory of the day in their final race. They rounded the first weather mark two boat lengths ahead of Carl and Jim Buchan, but looked as if the hooked a ride on the TGV and extended their lead to over one minute and fifteen seconds he next time around the top mark. They were hooked up to the French Federation’s new RIB by the time Hans Spitzhauer and Christian Nehammer (AUT) and Peter Bromby and Lee White (BER) crossed the finish line in second and third. It was difficult to make big gains and easy to suffer big losses in today’s conditions. The Buchans ended up eleventh in the final race.

Programme :

De lundi a vendredi : régate en flotte, nous serons environ 70 stars a concourir en deux groupes, un bleu et un jaune reparti le premier jour suivant notre classement mondial et ensuite suivant le classement de la compétition, nous serons sur le cercle D, départ du rond bleu 11h, le rond jaune 13h pour 2 a 3 manches par jour de 1h a 1h30

Samedi : medal race, seul les 10 premiers du classement participe a cette ultime manche de 20 minutes qui compte double au classement
